There are many different types of reactors including batch process reactors which are the easiest to use, continuous process reactors which are more complex but can be operated for long periods of time without being shut-down, CSTR, plug flow reactors, tubular flow reactors, and fed-batch process reactors which are the most common type and can achieve high productivities.
Reactors also come with different performance specifications such as vessel volume, temperature range, and pressure range. Choosing the correct industrial reactor for an application depends on how it processes its contents.
